This article is in the special issue "Late Quaternary Climates of Tropical America and Adjacent Seas"; a publication of PAGES PEP I (Pole-Equator-Pole transect through the Americas), a former Working Group. The aim was to integrate the research findings of climatologists and marine and continental paleoscientists studying paleoclimatic changes in and around tropical South America.
