Expertise & Interests

Overview / specialty        I have 10 years of experience in the study of geoenvironmental processes in the Earth surface and the paleoenvironmental signal preserved in marine, fluvial and lake sediments. I have conducted research in different national and international institutions including Cardiff university (2006), Pyrenean Institute of Ecology (2007-2011), University of Geneva (2011-2012) and the National Museum of Natural Sciences (2012-2015). Since 2015 I am a JdC postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Physical Chemistry Rocasolano-CSIC. I gained my Diploma (2006), MSc (2008) and PhD (2011) in Earth Science (2006) at the University of Zaragoza. My research was focused on Quaternary (paleo)hydrology and climate reconstructions using lakes as natural archives of the Past. During my predoctoral stage I was a visiting researcher at GFZ-Potsdam (2008 and 2009), where I was trained in high-resolution microfacies analysis. Secondly, at the CSULB-Los Angeles (2010), where I received training on seismic stratigraphy. During my period as a postdoctoral researcher at U. Geneva and CSIC I have consolidated my research in Geoenvironmental processes and Earth system dynamics with three different research lines; i) geomorphological evolution of deep-water channels and implications for hydrocarbon reservoirs; ii) recurrence rates of major geohazards (floods, earthquakes and subaquatic landslides) at decadal to centennial time-scales and; iii) heavy metals historical contamination of water bodies. Overall, my research results aim to help towards a more accurate assessment of risks from natural and anthropogenic hazards to people and infrastructure. Besides my research activities, I have a strong vocation and commitment for teaching.
