The EGU General Assembly 2014 will bring together geoscientists from all over the world into one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences.

Especially for young scientists, it is the aim of the EGU to provide a forum where they can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geosciences.

Studying the climate of the last two millennia (CL2.17)
This 2k co-sponsored session aims at highlighting research focusing on climate variations during the past 2000 years at regional to continental scales. We welcome presentations giving an insight into high-resolution quantitative land and ocean climate records, transient climate simulations, and on approaches to produce regional multi-proxy climate field reconstructions. We are also interested in studies comparing proxy data with climate model output, involving forward proxy modeling, data assimilation, or detection and attribution. 

 

Interglacial climate change - Learning from paleoclimate archives and models | PICO Session (CL5.7)

The projected global warming calls for an improved understanding of the climate system including biogeochemical cycles. With the anthropogenic change taking place under interglacial boundary conditions, the natural variability of interglacial climate dynamics and biogeochemical cycles and their sensitivity to generally warmer conditions than today has become a prime target of research to enhance our understanding of possible pathways into the future.
 
This session will provide a platform for exchanging new information on interglacial climate changes based on reconstructions from climate archives as well as from climate models. The session will address questions such as: (i) Were there significant changes in ocean and atmosphere circulation during the present and previous interglacial periods? (ii) What is the risk of abrupt climate changes in interglacials? (iii) To what extent do climate modes and decadal-scale variability depend on the interglacial background state? (iv) Can we understand the greenhouse gas records during (inter)glacials and what are the feedbacks in the Earth System? (v) What are the consequences of interglacial climate for ice sheets and sea ice? The session is initiated by the members of the integrated programs "Past4Future", “INTERDYNAMIC”, and “HOLOCLIP” but explicitly invites all contributions on interglacial climate change with a special focus on the present and the penultimate interglacial.
 
Co-sponsored by the IGBP project Past Global Changes (PAGES) and the FP7 project Past4Future, DFG Priority Research Program INTERDYNAMIC, and ESF PolarCLIMATE project HOLOCLIP. 
 
 
Hans Oeschger Medal Lecture by Sherilyn Claire Fritz (ML12)
PAGES SSC member, Sherilyn Fritz, will recieve the Hans Oeschger Medal and give a lecture entitled, "Through Layers of Mud and Time: Lacustrine Archives of Quaternary Climate Variation"
 
 
PAGES Euro-Med 2k splinter meeting (SPM1.61)
The PAGES Euro-Med2k Working Group focuses on creating spatial reconstructions and modeling of past climate in the Mediterranean region (including southern Europe, the Middle East and northern Africa) over the last 2,000 years. Participants are welcome to gather as the group discusses upcoming work plans in this splinter meeting.
